A fun parody of some brand, we thought it was cool so we went with it. We altered the colors of the Mars Perseverance Parachute, encoded (in binary) with the motto for Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Dare Mighty Things. The outer edge is encoded with 34°11’58” N 118°10’31” W, the location of JPL. The Mars Perseverance Rover has some exciting mission objectives including looking for habitability, looking for signs of possible past microbial life, and testing oxygen production from the Martian atmosphere. The rover is also carrying an experimental helicopter, Ingenuity, which will evaluate the feasibility of aerodynamic flight in the thin Martian atmosphere (average surface pressure on Mars is less than 1% of the Earth’s value). Launched from Cape Canaveral and landing in Jezero crater, the Mars Perseverance Rover is showing the universe that life endures and explores.
